Mixing Up The Medicine: The Early Songs of Bob Dylan

Mixing Up The Medicine: The Early Songs of Bob Dylan

Sunday, January 29 @ 6:00PMSun, Jan 29 @ 6:00PM

Pine Grove Hall, 101 E. Pine Grove Rd., Pine Grove Mills

"Sixty Years After... A Retrospective" | Hosted by Larry Boggess with guest Kevin Briggs

The first in a series of four evenings of discussion and performance focusing on musicians from the 1960’s and their moments of impact on American culture.

Dylan’s earliest material (the albums Bob Dylan 1962 through Nashville Skyline 1969), influenced folk, rock, and country music. The mood in modern day America is unsettled and so was the mood in the 1960’s when Dylan arrived in New York City. Dylan’s earliest songs are timeless on their own and relevant to how we understand modern American society and culture. Host Larry Boggess and special guest Kevin Briggs will play a curated selection of Dylan’s early work and comment on the songs, their meaning, and impact on today.

Doors open at 5pm. Presentation begins at 6pm. Event is upstairs. Not handicapped accessible. Full bar and our casual fare menu available all evening.

After playing as a duo for several years, Evan Stearns joined with his upright bass, followed by Adam Laird on mandolin. Local drummer Noah Connely, vocalist Natalie Race (Raven and the Wren, Pure Cane Sugar), and harmonica wizard Nathan Cutshall (Ma’am) often accompany the band. Caledonia has twice been awarded first place in the Pennsylvania Heritage songwriting contest for their original songs "Four Mile Road" and "Pennsylvania Grass” and is currently working on a full-length album in Collins' Lemont Studio.

Love Salad is back... and reborn with Annabelle Smarth at the microphone. Love Salad brings the ferocity of Todd Harrison's drumming with the cool grooves of Clay Wulbrecht and Joshua Davis, delivering an eclectic fusion of funk, alt-rock.

Annabelle’s first Salad gig was December 2022. No band rehearsal…just went for it! A witness described Annabelle’s awakening moments as epic and precious. Gig two on New Year’s Eve - another level. You need to hear gig three.

Todd Harrison spent 20 years and 7 days drumming the US Jazz Ambassadors into shape, as a full time job. Got pulse? You’ll dance: https://open.spotify.com/track/2quZcV996iSud3WcSGbqYX?si=f0352bbe32d44c3b

Clay Wulbrecht’s caduceus keyboards command calumniation. Hear it to believe it.

Josh Davis plays bass, arrange songs, write lyrics, and directs musical traffic like there’s always tomorrow.
