Open major tunings—D and E; A and G; C—share a powerful structural simplicity: just one string carries the third of the chord, determining whether the harmony is major or minor. Learn one tuning, and you’ve essentially learned the structure of them all.

This highly practical and satisfying workshop offers a clear, hands-on introduction to open tunings that’s valuable for any guitarist—blues player or not. It can naturally lead into slide technique, though no slide experience is required.
